73 Barcelones is an exhibition presenting maps produced in 2023 by architects who inhabit Barcelona. Each participant represented one of the 73 neighborhoods that compose the city, rethinking and redrawing the entire urban fabric from their neighborhood's perspective.
Maps have historically highlighted what societies value—from colonial territories to census data and tourist destinations. This exhibition questions these values and forms of representation, opening debate about what we prioritize when we inhabit and draw our cities. Taking the neighborhood as a unit of urban empathy, the exhibition reveals alternative qualities that should inform our urban environments.
Each drawing operates as a manifesto, creating together a new cartography of Barcelona that challenges dominant narratives and proposes alternative readings of the city.
73 Barcelones was presented during the second edition of Model Festival d'Arquitectures de Barcelona, curated by Noa Yarkoni, Tiffany Whittaker, and Mar Gené, with support from Cooperativa La Capell and Disseny Hub Barcelona. The project won the Curatorial Projects Award at the festival, directed by Eva Franch i Gilabert under the theme RADICAL EMPATHY.
