Rocking the accident : Ephemeral architecture

Project /

Installation

Year /

Location /

Mies Van der Rohe pavilion

A temporary spatial intervention at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, Barcelona, developed as part of the Master in Ephemeral Architecture and Temporary Spaces.
Following a textile lithographic exploration process with artist Stella Rahola Matutes at Sant Lluc art center, we generated a series of interpretive drawings based on the material patterns of the pavilion's travertine. The work examines how human and environmental factors play a fundamental role in the stone's deterioration and aging over time.

From this conceptual foundation, we developed a spatial strategy of substitution-replacing visible elements with those normally unseen in the pavilion: broken fragments stored in the basement and lichens growing on walls were represented through drawings and negatives. The installation creates a timeline that reveals not only the parallelism between what is seen and what remains hidden, but also the vectors and agents that drive material transformation.
This intervention marks the first phase of an ongoing project exploring ephemeral occupation within the iconic pavilion.
